By empowering women, refugees, and youth to launch small businesses and savings groups, our cost-effective model provides dignified and sustainable pathways for people to lift themselves and their families out of extreme poverty—for good. To date, Village Enterprise has trained 342,369 first-time entrepreneurs, launched 106,530 businesses, and impacted more than 2,168,886 million lives across Africa. Village Enterprise has operations in four countries—Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda—and works with partners in other sub-Saharan countries. As Village Enterprise continues to scale, our aim is to lift 20 million people out of extreme poverty by 2035.
DREAMS Project Overview:
Delivering Resilient Enterprises and Market Systems (DREAMS) for refugees provides an innovative solution that will drive refugee self-reliance. DREAMS will equip the most vulnerable refugees with the security and dignity that comes from providing for one’s family. The program integrates two proven models –poverty graduation and Market Systems Development –layering these approaches in a new way that will ensure that the poorest refugee households are able to improve their income and well-being significantly.
Graduation provides the capital and skills to support refugees as they establish their businesses, and Market Systems Development helps to build market access pathways to ensure those businesses can be successful.
