About Village Enterprise
Village Enterprise works to end extreme poverty in rural Africa through entrepreneurship and innovation. Our US-based staff are deeply integrated into a global team that spans Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, and beyond. We believe strongly in cultivating a connected, high-trust, mission-centered culture—no matter where our teams sit.
About the Role
The People & Culture Partner is responsible for strengthening the employee experience for our US-based remote team while serving as the primary liaison with Insperity, our Professional Employer Organization(PEO), and the global People & Culture (P&C) team. This role blends HR coordination, culture-building, compliance support, onboarding excellence, and cross-continental partnership.
This is a unique opportunity for an HR professional who loves people, believes deeply in mission-driven work, and is passionate about creating an exceptional workplace for a small but mighty remote US team while staying in close alignment with our East Africa P&C leadership.
Key Responsibilities
1. HR Administration & PEO Liaison (Insperity)
- Serve as the primary point of contact with Insperity for payroll, benefits, compliance, onboarding, and offboarding.
- Manage US hiring logistics: job postings, screening support, interview coordination, and supporting hiring managers.
- Maintain accurate HR files, compliance documentation, and benefits administration.
- Troubleshoot employee questions regarding benefits, leave, and policies.
2. People & Culture Partnership (Global)
- Collaborate with the VP of People & Culture (East Africa) to harmonize processes, values, and culture for the US team.
- Provide expertise and guidance on US market compensation, benefits, and leave practices.
- Align onboarding materials, performance processes, and training modules with global standards.
- Support culture initiatives that foster unity across US and East Africa teams.
- Participate in cross-functional projects with the global P&C team.
3. Employee Experience & Culture Building
- Strengthen the culture of a primarily remote US team through intentional connection, celebration, communication, and engagement.
- Lead onboarding experiences that help new staff feel connected to the mission, global team, and values.
- Coordinate internal trainings, learning opportunities, and team-building moments.
- Identify opportunities to improve remote work experience, belonging, and professional development.
- Manage and resolve US employee relations matters by offering timely guidance, facilitating conflict resolution, and ensuring adherence to organizational policies and employment laws.
4. HR Systems, Performance, & Policy Support
- Support performance review processes in coordination with global P&C and US managers.
- Maintain HRIS records and ensure data integrity.
- Help ensure policies reflect both US legal requirements and organizational values.
- Track US employee lifecycle events (promotions, role changes, milestones).
- Provide HR administrative support, including assisting staff with timesheet troubleshooting (Flair issues, project additions/removals), and sending timesheet and PTO request/approval reminders to relieve existing P&C workload.
- Support management of the U.S. People & Culture budget, including tracking expenses, maintaining updated records, and preparing basic budget reports as needed.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of HR experience, ideally in a nonprofit or global organization.
- Familiarity with PEO structures (Insperity experience a plus).
- Strong people instincts, communication skills, and relationship-centered approach.
- Experience supporting remote teams and building connection across distance.
- Ability to partner cross-culturally and navigate different organizational norms.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
What We Offer
- Part-time, flexible (up to 32 hours/week).
- Highly mission-driven environment with global exposure.
- Health, Dental, Vision, Paid Time Off, 401k.
- Opportunity to shape the culture of a mission-driven US remote team.
- Significant room for influence and growth as VE evolves.
